John Keating Obituary

Keating – John Joseph “Jack”, passed away on May 9, 2024 after a short illness. Jack was born February 26, 1942 in Jackson Heights, New York to Catherine Cooney and Jack Keating. He is survived by his sisters, Cathy, Bet and Barbara (Mike). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Justin (deceased), Kendra (Chris), Ethan (Christine), Marisa (Josh), Jonathan, Cate and Matthew; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack grew up in Elmhurst and Wantagh, NY. He attended St. Agnes High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball being named “Most Valuable Basketball Player” in 1959. Jack went on to play basketball at Iona College in New Rochelle. Jack was a life long runner who ran the New York City Marathon. Jack taught High School English in Deer Park for over 30 years. Jack moved to Point Lookout in 1968. He leaves behind many good friends in Point Lookout and beyond, especially the “Irish Day Workers” who met every morning on the boulevard for coffee. The family wants to thank Lori and Jeff, Pam and Bill and the JoJo Apple staff for all the friendship, help and support during Jack’s illness. Rest in Peace Jack. We will miss you. A memorial service will be celebrated in July at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Point Lookout.
