I don’t usually plug charities on these pages, but since I am risking hypothermia and frost—bite for this, IÂ decided to post it.
In a few weeks, I’ll again be doing the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge! This year, it will be on 24 January at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Maryland.
For those who haven’t experienced this (either in person or by watching the news in the comfort of their heated living rooms), the Polar Bear Plunge is a refreshing dip for charity into the waters of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay – in the dead of winter.

According to weather.com, the average temperatures for Sandy Point on 24 January is between 23 and 41 degrees. They’re currently forecasting the 23rd to be between 33 and 38 degrees. The National Oceanographic Data Center says that the average January water temperature is 36 degrees. The last time I did this, there was ice crusting the water’s edge.
