Geography – Keating, Pennsylvania, USA

Stephen F. Miller Jr. has created a very nice site with information on the counties and cities of North Central Pennsylvania. Of particular interest to our researchers are Keating and Keating Summit.

According to reader Lori Chase,

During the border dispute with Connecticut, Gov. Keating pushed for Pennsylvanians to migrate up here, figuring the more PA settlements the better our claim would be to ownership of the disputed territory. He even spent his own money, buying land and then reselling to prospective settlers. So if you look on a map of this area, you’ll find his name mentioned often… and even a township named after his wife, Eulalia. (At least I think that’s the same Keating.)
