BERNARD KEATING MELBOURNE Bernard J. Bernie Keating, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 7, 2007. Bernie was born of Irish immigrant parents in New York, New York on April 16, 1927. At age 10 his family returned to Ireland where he spent his formative years before joining the U.S. Army in 1947. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1968 after 21 years of service, including combat tours in both Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his Vietnam service. Following military service, he relocated his family to Melbourne and worked in the aerospace industry at Kennedy Space Center, retiring with over 25 years of service in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlene Keating; sons, William Keating and wife Leslie of Atlanta and Charles Keating and wife Jean of Williamsburg, Virginia; daughter, Brenda Johnson and husband Jim of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Carl Johnson, Sean Keating, Elliott Keating, and Ethan Keating. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 10th, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Florida Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 5950 South U.S. Hwy 1, Rockledge. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11th, at 11a.m., at Florida Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow with full military honors at Florida Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Bernie, be made to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Park way, Palm Bay, FL 32905.
