Judges Wife Slapped Him, and Screamed in Middle of Night, Divorce Case Complaint Says

San Diego, Cal., April 14.

Argument upon the sufficiency of the complaint filed by Justice of the Peace J. Edward Keating against his wife, Eva, asking for a divorce, has been heard by Judge Guy in the superior court and the question taken under advisement. At the conclusion of the argument, Attorney C. A. A. McGee, representing Judge Keating, asked that the case be brought to trial as quickly as possible because his client was anxious to have the issues settled.

Attorney H. S. Utley, representing the wife, argued that the complaint was too general in its accusations, and that specific dates and circumstances should be set forth. The actual contents of the complaint, although generally known, were revealed for the first time when the document was read in court. Judge Keating had the instrument sealed when it was first placed on file March 15.

The extreme cruelty upon which the divorce is sought consists, according to the complaint, of screaming in the middle of the night, thus arousing the neighbors; threatening that she would make him lose all his friends in the city; threatening to kill him and then commit suicide; informing friends of her husband that he beat her and failed to support her; accusing him of unfaithfulness; slapping him and daring him to strike her in return, and of indulging in violent fits of temper.
