John Francis “Jack” Keating

 

IDAHO FALLS, ID — John Francis Keating, 72, of Idaho Falls, died June 16, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 24, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Francis J. Keating and Margaret McGervey Keating. He attended local schools, graduated from Cathedral Latin High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Kent State University. He served as a DK2 in the US Navy during the Korean War.

He married Mary Ann Frattini on December 12, 1964, in New York City. He worked across the country for the United Way agencies, living in New York City, New York; Dayton, Ohio; Munster, Indiana; and Terra Haute, Indiana. In 1980 he relocated to Idaho Falls, Idaho, and served as the Executive Director for United Way of Idaho Falls until 1993.

He served as a docent at the Museum of Idaho. He was a member of The Idaho Falls Catholic Community, where he served as usher and lay Eucharistic minister for the homebound. He enjoyed golf and reading, but he gained the most enjoyment from spending time with his granddaughters Tori and Becca.

2 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church (145 – 9th Street) with Father Joe McDonald officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.). Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Huntington, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Christian Ministries, 433 May Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401.

(Jack Keating was my 3rd cousin, once removed. I never met him, in fact, had only found his branch of the family over the last few years. From talking with his siblings, it sounds as if he lived a long and storied life.)

  1. My uncle was a John “Jack” Francis Keating also; born 1900; died 1948. His father was Rd.Keating, Co.Carlow and Grandfather Tom Keating , Co.Carlow, and Gt Grandfather John Keating, Co. Wexford , all in Ireland though many of each of their siblings emigrated to the USA.???
