I am interested in finding the link back to Ireland for my particular branch of the Keating family but I have been basically stopped at Redmond Keating who fought on the British side in the American Revolutionary War with Jacob James troop of the Pennsylvania Light Dragoons, part of Tarleton’s British Legion. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781. He went to Nova Scotia with many other members of the Legion after the war in 1784 where he received a land grant of 100 acres at Port Mouton.
His son Redmond (II) was born in 1832 in Guysborough Co. NS. His son Redmond (III) is my great-grandfather.
If anyone has information beyond this, I would be very appreciative if you would drop me a line or post the information here.

There were several Redmond Keatings and Redmond de Keatings. They were related to the famous Barron John Keating who helped USA in the revolutionary war. Perhaps you are related.
I am not (that I’m aware of, although I’d love to have one of their Keating-line descendants take a Y-Dna test), although I’ve been in touch with a handful of their descendants. There are multiple books to be written about the adventures of their family.

I have lots of oral history about him passed down to me The old men told me that he helped The indigenous and other peoples with their quest for freedom including my own he has saved my life three times before I was 16 he had the slow Irish boil any man that has his name is blessed with the warrior for righteousness

Kevin, I am trying to establish the link between the Redmond Keating member of the British Legion, and who came up from Port Muton, though Lunenburg county to Guysborough (and married Elizabeth Sperry/Spinney/Spori), and the Redmond Keating who married Mary Ryan and lived on the Strait of Canso. They should be connected families, but just looking for the connection. Also, Redmond and Mary’s eldest son, Michael was born in Newfoundland in 1822, so another complicating factor.

I have a 2nd Great Grandfather Redmond Keating born in 1832, in Guysborough, N.S., married Mary Jane Bowles in 1833, but has neither a Michael or a Redmond as a son… his son Thomas is my Great Grandfather, who married Emma Mae Boudreau (Boudrot). Maybe just a coincidence to have two Redmond Keatings born in N.S. in the same year…
Just found a record indicating that Michael Redmond Keating, who married Elizabeth Spinney, was born in Loch Garman in Wexford, Ireland. I’ve been trying to find out where he was born for a few years, and someone just updated their family tree a couple months ago with this information. Now looking for the original source.
