They were children of Charles Hammersleigh (Karl Hammerschlag) and Mary Barbara (Schrupp/Shreup), who married in Frederick County, Md. on April 27, 1799.
Matthias was born March 11, 1800. Henrietta was born Feb. 7, 1802. The mother, Mary Barbara, married again on Nov. 4, 1811 to Philip Shriver, and they had a child, Marian (Mary Ann), who was born Nov. 4, 1813. Records are all from the Creagerstown Union Church Lutheran/Reformed baptisms. Children of James and Henrietta Weddle from the church records show: Frederick William, b. Jan. 2, 1821; George Washington, b. March 24, 1826; Lewis Horatio, b. May 11, 1827; Samuel Jacob, b. Sept. 4, 1828; Mary Elizabeth, b. Dec. 26, 1829; Sarah Ann Matilda, b. May 12, 1832; George Washington, b. Jan. 25, 1834 (perhaps the first one had died); Marieta Seraphina, b. Aug. 23, 1838.
