Obituary Notes.

Mrs. Julia Keating, 62 years old, widow of William Keating, died at her home, 24 Schaeffer Street, Brooklyn, on Friday.

Miss Julia E. Keating

Miss Julia E. Keating of Detroit, formerly of Bridgeport, died Sunday in Detroit.

Committal services will take place Friday at 1:45 p.m. in St. Michael’s cemetery.

The Mullins and Redagle funeral home, 1297 Park avenue, is in charge of local arrangements.

Miss Keating was a resident of Bridgeport 40 years ago before moving to Detroit where she was a school teacher.

Survivors include two brothers, Walter and Chester Keating, both of Detroit; and a sister, Miss Ruth M. Keating also of Detroit.

John W. Keating

Frostburg, June 11—John W. Keating, 71, of 81 Mt. Pleasant street, retired employe of the Consolidation Coal Company, died last night at Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been admitted last Friday.

A member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Mr. Keating is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Keating, and the following children, Mrs. Dolores Wolfe, Cumberland; Mrs. Julia Clites, LaVale; Mrs. Ursula Reyhuon [sic - Reburn], Rockville; John W. Keating, Jr., Baltimore; Thomas, Front Royal, Va.; Charles, this city, and Mary Agnes, Leo, Joseph and James, at home. He had two sisters, Mother Mary Euphrasia, Seattle, Washington, and Mother Estrit [sic - Esprit], Troy, N. Y., and one brother, Thomas P. Keating, Miami, Fla. He had ten grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary E. Cronin

Mrs. Mary E. Cronin, 84, widow of Patrick Cronin, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katherine Hawkins, 109 South Smallwood street, following a protracted illness. She was a daughter of the late John and Julia Keating, of Frostburg, and had resided 30 years in this city.

Mrs. Cronin is also survived by a son, John P. Cronin; two brothers, Thomas P. Keating, Miami, Fla., and John W. Keating, Frostburg; two sisters, both nuns in the Order of the Good Shepherd, Sister Euphrasia, of Seattle, Wash., and Sister Mary, of St. Repetan Church, Troy, N.Y. She is also survived by four granddaughters, one of whom is Sister M. David, of the Ursuline Convent, Louisville, Ky., and by three great-grandchildren. The Rev. Father Alfred, head of St. Joseph’s College and Military Academy, Hayes, Kan., is a nephew, and Mother Emacheulala [?], of the Ursuline Order, St. Michael’s School, Frostburg, is a niece.

Mrs. Cronin was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for 28 years and a member of the Third Order and Christian Mothers.

This deed made this 29th day of March in the year One thousand eight hundred and ninety seven by Katie Counihan and John Counihan her husband, Mary E. Cronin and Patrick Cronin, her husband of Allegany County in the State of Maryland, Julia A. Keating whose religious name is Sister M. Euphrasia of the town of Seattle in the State of Washington and Theresa G. Keating, whose religious name is Sister M. Cyprian of the City of New York in the State of New York and Julia Keating the widow of John C. Keating, late of Allegany County, deceased, parties of the first part and John W. Keating, Thomas P. Keating, and Agnes C. Keating of Allegany County in the State of Maryland, parties of the second part. Whereas a certain John C. Keating, recently departed this life, intestate siesed and possessed of the seal estate hereafter described, and leaving surviving him a widow the said Julia Keating, and the following heirs at law. Katie Counihan, Mary E. Cronin, Julia A. Keating, Theresa G. Keating, Thomas P. Keating, Agnes C. Keating and John W. Keating to whom the said Real Estate descended, and whereas the parties of the second part have agreed to purchase from the parties of the first part all their interest in and to said Real Estate. Now therefore this deed witnesseth, that in consideration of the premises and the payments by the parties of the second part to the the parties of the first part of the sum of One Thousand two hundred Dollars ($1,200.00) the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Katie Counihan and John Counihan her husband, Mary E. Cronin and Patrick Cronin her husband, Julia A. Keating, whose religious name is Sister M. Euphrasia, Theresa G. Keating, whose religious name is Sister M. Cyprian and Julia Keating the widow of the late John C. Keating do grant and convey unto the said John W. Keating, Agnes C. Keating, and Thomas P. Keating.

All their right title and interest in and to All that piece or parcel of land situated and lying in the town of Frostburg, Allegany County in the State of Maryland which is particularly described as follows: All that piece or parcel of land lying and being in Allegany County and State of Maryland and situated near the town of Frostburg, it being a part of a tract of land called “The Hotel” and was[?] particularly described by and contained within the following courses and distances to wit: Beginning at a stake standing on the Southwest side of the road  leading from the National Turnpike to the “Allegany Cemetery” and also of the end of the first line of that part of the “Hotel”, sold by the said Thomas G. McCulloh Executor to Robert C. Paul and running thence with said road. North twenty five degrees West one hundred and thirty three feet to the intersection of McCulloh Street and with it North sixty nine feet to the Alley intersecting with said street thence South twenty nine degrees West four hundred and ninety feet to a fence standing on a line of that part of the “Hotel”sold by Thomas G. McCulloh Executor to John Bone thence with said fence South sixty one degrees East one hundred and fifty eight feet to the end of the second line of the aforesaid Robert D. Paul’s Lot and reversing said line North fifty seven and one half degrees East four hundred and sixty four and one half feet to the place of beginning. Containing three and one tenth acres.

Saving and excepting from the operation of this deed all the large vein of coal which may be under the aforesaid lot or parcel of land as heretofore sold and conveyed by George McCulloh andthe aforementioned Mary McCulloh his wife and being the same piece or parcel of land which was conveyed by Thomas G. McCulloh Executor to John Keating, by deed dated June the Seventh One thousand eight hundred and seventy four and recorded in Liber J. L. No. 43 folio 40, one of the Land Records of Allegany County.

Together with the improvements thereon and the rights and appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining. So have and to hold the above granted property unto the said John W. Keating, Agnes C. Keating and Thomas P. Keating as tenants in common their heirs and assigns forever in fee simple.

As witness our hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Allegany County to wit: I hereby certify that on this 29th day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Allegany County personally appeared Katie Counihan and John Counihan her husband and Julia Keating and acknowledged the aforegoing deed to be their respective act and deed.

Died:

At the residence of John Counihan, this place, Thursday evening, August 22, 1907, Mrs. Julia Keating, aged 82 years. Mrs. Keating, born in Ireland, came to this country in 1852, and here she reared several daughters and sons, surviving as follows – Mrs. John Counihan and Mrs. Patrick Cronin, of this place; Misses Agnes, of Stamford, Conn., and Julia, of Seattle, Washington – the two latter being Sisters of the Order of Good Shepherd, and Messers. John Keating, of this place, and Thomas P., of Newport News, Va. A devoted communicand of St. Michael’s Church many years, she was held in high esteem for her many Christian qualities. The latter years of her life brought suffering, but she bore it with the Christian’s resignation and the Christian’s faith. The funeral, held at St. Michael’s Monday, was largely attended. In the cemetery she was laid beside her husband, 13 years gone before.

Death of Mrs. Keating.

Many expressions of sorrow and sympathy were heard upon receipt of the intelligence of the death of Mrs. Keating, better known as “Grandma” Keating, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Cunningham [sic], Thursday-evening from old age and general debility. The deceased is a life-long member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and was one of its oldest and most respected members. The funeral took place this morning at 9 o’clock from the Catholic Church on Main street. Rev. S. J. Clark conducted the services and celebrated mass, speaking in a touching manner of the affliction of the deceased in recent years and the true christian fortitude with which she bore the same. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband, who died many years ago, in the Catholic cemetery, the funeral being largely attended.

The deceased is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mr. John Keating, Mrs. John Cunningham [sic], and Mrs. William Cronin, all of this place; Mr. Thomas Keating, of Newport News, Va.; and Miss Agnes, who went to be a sister of charity in New York.
