Bernard was a cousin of my grandfather, Francis F. Keating,of Danbury, CT.
His son, Bernard, used to come to our home in New Milford, CT and a foundation was set up called "The Keating Foundation" which helped some of us pay for college.

Hi Syl,

Maurices twin Dennis was my GGG grandfather. I have the full family lines. None of that particular Keating line served in the British army. Military records are quite good. Best of luck.

Hi.....Read above info with interest. Do you have further info on Maurice Keating (twin of Denis born 1791)? My 2ggrandfather was a Maurice Keating who served in the British Army in India (in and around Bangalore).According to his military record, he was a clerk before he enlisted. He married an Elizabeth (possibly Sullivan) and had at least 4 children with her, one being Frances Keatinge, my grandmother.
.......Any connections......Syl

Hi, Therese. This is probably not related at all. But...my grandfather James McNally came to Melbourne, Australia in the early 1920s from Scotland. He had an Irish background, which he didn't talk about because of the treatment he received when his mother died. He had brothers whom he Sponsored to come out, Andrew and Jack, and had married Anna Macleod in Scotland who got him to change it to MacNally to Scottish-ise it. He also had half-silbings when his father remarried. I wish all the sources I want to research weren't asking for money to do it!

I am Joseph Keating of Cahirsiveen, Co. Kerry. I am the second of five. Maurice, Joseph, Maura, Michael & Paul. My Father is Joseph, the youngest of eight from Gurraneregh (known also to them as Knockeens). My mother is Carmel, also Keating, from Derrynane harbour, Caherdaniel.
I thought I'd say hello as there may be some common ground in the past.

Three translations that I've found are by O'Mahoney, O'Connor, and Comyn. My own copy is of the first.

You can find a copy of Keating's History of Ireland at several of the major online book sellers. Try:

Amazon.com
Amazon.co.uk
BarnesAndNoble.com
Alibris.com

Also, if you're as cheap as I am, you can also read translations on books.google.com.

John Francis Keating was my Grandfather. I never knew him personally as he died before I was born in 1941, but my mother, Janet Keating, would tell us children what a wonderful man he was. She would often say that "they threw the mold away after he was born".

Although I've marked them as non-related, given that our family spent some time in that area in the 1850's before heading south to Maryland, I wouldn't be too surprised to find that your tendency to old Fords is genetic. :)
